Imagine a time when employees of the Walk-Over Shoe Company in Brockton, Massachusetts, could unwind and socialize at the opulent Walk-Over Club, 13-acre employee recreation complex that was established by George E. Keith (circa 1919) as referenced in the Walk-over Factory Prints' newspaper dated August 29, 1919.




 


According to historical accounts, the Walk-Over Club boasted extensive facilities, including baseball fields, tennis courts, and a grand clubhouse offering bowling, billiards, and even classes like cooking and dressmaking. Imagine employees enjoying a delightful meal on this very dinner plate within the club's walls! The plate's emergence not only unveils a unique piece of Walk-Over memorabilia but also offers a glimpse into the remarkable employee benefits and vibrant social scene fostered by the company. Something that is lost in todays work force!

Encouraging low priced membership for employee participation, the club boasted over 1,600 members by October 1919. It was located at the current site of Walkover Commons 100 Perkins Avenue Brockton Massachusetts
